McDonalds, Serangoon Central Branch. It was a little after 2pm on a school day and with more than 4 institutions within the 3km radius, it is no wonder that it is packed with parents and kids. A mother with 2 sons were having their lunch.
Mother : "Oh! While I was in the queue earlier, I noticed 2 boys stopping at the table to talk to you. What were you boys talking about?"
1st Boy (Age 8) answered, nonchalantly :"Oh nothing. They asked me if I have got money."
Mother's eyes widened, hesitated then asked calmly : "So .. what did you tell them?"
1st Boy : "I told them I didnt have any"
2nd Boy (Age 5) quipped : "I told them I have got some!"
Mother was not amused : "And ... "
2nd Boy continued excitedly : "They asked me where and I told them at home. Then one of the boy waved his fist at me"
Mother looked at boys, exasperated. Boys looked at mommy, wondering why she seemed upset.
This happened more than a month ago and even up to now, I am still stumped by what has happened!
When I related this incident to my husband when we got home, he said that I should have been more observant when strangers approach our kids. I know it may sound a bit protective but we are talking about a dreamy 8 year old and a "too-garang-for-his-own-good" 5 year old.
So much for mommies who always thinks the best of people and street-wise daddies who should knows boys better since they were once boys themselves.

"don't disclose your address"
"don't tell them papa always travelling"
"don't believe them when they say they are here to pick u because mummy is not free"
Must add 1 more -"don't say you got money."
