onSponge Tips - Know the 4 Types of Questions To Ask
Hi Parents,
Apart from using the right content to help improve your child’s understanding in Math language as I have previously shared, the way your child is being taught is also key to Learning Right To Perform Right Consistently! Hence explains the difference in a child who solves independently as opposed to one who relies for help whenever a sum previously worked on is tweaked.
One of the effective ways of teaching is to ASK questions as opposed to telling a child what to do. When the right questions are asked, your child will be guided and stimulated to think through the problem-solving process. Overtime, he naturally develops the independence of working through the sums by himself.
Types of questions to ask your child when helping him to understand a problem sum may be grouped into 4 categories (Badham 1994):

Known as the GAP (Guide, Ask and Probe) Approach at our Oodles Learning centres, tutors question the students to help them hone a skill to be able to internalise the way to question in order to develop the ability to extract the right information from the problem sums and solve it independently.
The GAP Approach and other important skills in problem sum solving are the essential tools to ensuring consistency in performance especially in an examination. To help your child develop these skills set immediately for this year-end exam, click here url to find out more today!
