Back-To-School Guide to Take Charge of 2020!
Dear Parents,
For kids, January screams Back-To-School and assignments with parents hustling and bustling around with the start of schedule juggling once more! Yes, it can be daunting amidst all the excitements so here’s a quick guide from the onSponge Team, hopefully to ease your way to a great Term 1 for the family.
Back-To-School Guide #1: Positive Mind = Positive Results!
After an entire month of being away from school, some Back-To-School blues over homework and possibly endless tuition, is normal. Yet, your children are likely to miss the fun of being with their friends again! So, fight the blues by checking in on them after school - ask about their day, get them to share anything and everything they did with their friends apart from their classroom learning. Let them know that you are listening and caring for their social interests as well. Help your child take charge of the new year by starting it right with engagement beyond the academics!
Back-To-School Guide #2: Back on the Grind But Tenderly!
Don’t be too hard on your child if he seems to forget what was learnt last year! All our children need is a little boost to normalize into their learning routine. Revisit the best practices in previous year with your child, discuss on areas to improve upon and work through the types of support that he might need including rewards that you both can agree to based on realistic goals set. Finally, before your child gets geared up for the new academic year, he needs a review, recap and reinforce – the 3Rs to previous year’s curriculum. So, spend some time to identify the core topics that need the 3Rs and work through together instead of hurrying into the new syllabus.
Back-To-School Guide #3: Be in the know to be Prepared!
When it comes to your child’s education, don’t be shy about being ‘kiasu’ or overly prepared. Learning and development is long-term. Be mindful that you are preparing your child for the PSLE, not the academic year. You need to be in the know especially while it is still early in the school year. Be hungry in seeking the right information about the changes to expect and the challenges that your child is likely to face as he progresses into the new academic level striving closer to the national exam. So look further when understanding the basis for your child’s learning because everything taught is scaffolded to a bigger end goal.
P.S You can find out more about these changes and challenges at the P3, P4 & P5 Back-To-School Sharing Session happening at our certified tuition partners.
We hope that you found this guide helpful and may 2020 be THE year for you and your child! All the best.
Yours Sincerely,
The onSponge Team
