Everyone perished when the plane crashed into the sea. Only little Sally did not.

Can the answer be.
Everyone perished when the plance crashed into the sea except little Sally.

Please advise.

I don't think so.

I would put either:
- Everyone except little Sally perished when the plane crashed into the sea; or
- Except for little Sally, everyone perished when the plane crashed into the sea.
