Hi

1) felt
2) feel
3) have felt
4) had felt

If am not wrong, the answer could either be option(1) or (2), depending on the time.
Please help.Thank you.

since we don't know when it happened, it could be:
'We feel that it was unnecessary for them to react so violently.'

I'm not sure about this question, but my answer is (4). Since there is no time specification, we have to use the past perfect tense.

By right, the ans should be (1) as the question has the word "was". I dont think it is necessary to know the time specification:)

Hi Siji, you are correct both the answers are correct. In fact All the answers are gramatically correct!

We feel that it was unnecessary for them to react so violently.
You are feeling that it was unnecessary.

We felt that it was unnecessary for them to react so violently.
Same as above only in past tense. also means you are still feeling the same way.

We have felt that it was unnecessary for them to react so violently
You were feeling it was unnecessary but now feel otherwise

We had felt that it was unnecessary for them to react so violently.
Same as above but in past tense

On the whole the question itself needs some tweaking.
