I heard Mr Tan ____________ at his pupils just now.

(1) yell
(2) yells
(3) yelled
(4) yelling

Can anyone explain which is the correct answer ? I have two answer for this question either (1) yell or (4) yelling. Which is the most appropriate one.

Since the question mention "just now" , why cannot use yelled.

Thank you

 Firstly, is the answer yelled? Because 'yelled' is the only appropriate answer for this question. Why you may ask, and my reply is... :woohoo:
Firstly, heard and just now is past tense.
Secondly, if you phrase the sentence, yelled is just the right one.

It's just better to ask your teachers then strangers as you had gotten use with your teacher but not stranger!!! ;)

P.S. GOOD LUCK FOR YOUR SA2!!!

Gladys
The answer is definitely 'yell'
My reason is that the first verb if it is in the past tense will have the second verb in the present tense.A sentence cannot have two verbs in the past tense.

Lim Fuo En,

Please do not say in this manner. Even if we are older than P2 but we are still learning. We learn and share together.

I do agree with Saraswathi that her/his answer is right as she gave very good reason.

Ermm ... friends , the answer is (1) yell .
After the word 'heard' is an infinitive .
Although its past tense , yell is the best answer . (:
The answer is definitely (1) .
