3 jugs X, Y and Z contained a certain amount of water. After 1/8 of the water in X and 1/3 of water in Z was poured into Y, the three jugs each had 14.7 litres of water. How much water was there in Jug Y at first?

1/8 of water poured into Y from X
So X has 7/8 of water = 14.7 litres
14.7 ÷ 7 = 2.1 litres of water poured into Y from X

1/3 of water poured into Y from Z
So Z has 2/3 of water = 14.7
14.7 ÷ 2 = 7.35 litres of water poured into Y from Z

14.7 - 7.35 - 2.1 = 5.25 litres of water was there in Jug Y at first.
