I don't understand the answer provided. Need help. Thank you.

There were 6 times as many balloons as whistles at a party. After Mrs Chan bought as equal number of balloons and whistles, there were thrice as many balloons and whistles. Given that Mrs Chan had 20 whistles in the end, how many balloons and whistles did she buy in all?
