I don't understand the answer provided. Need help. Thanks.

Joni had thrice as much money as Glen at first. They each spent $45 on a haversack bag. In the end, Joni had 8 times as much money left as Glen. How much money did they have altogether in the end?

Thank you.

I still don't get it. The $45 spent could be more than 1 unit. How do you know in the first place that the $45 from your model is smaller than 1 unit?

Hi

$45 cannot be more than 1 unit since Glenn only has 1 unit as compared to Joni who has only 3 units at first. Hence, Glen cannot spend more than what he has.

Hope that helps.
