i dont think many ppl want to answer you when want answer so quickly. i see your post you only give ppl 10 minutes to answer. haha

we learned these in P4

try equal stage beginning for the first question and equal stage ending for the second question

Ans for Q1: 14 boys

And for Q2: 55 oranges

1) At a party, there were an equal number of girls and boys at first. Halfway during the party, 8 boys left and 4 girls joined the party. In the end, there were thrice as many girls as boys. how many boys were at the party at first?

....................Girls.............................Boys
Before..............3 units-4.......................1 unit+8
...................................+4..............................-8
....................____________________________________________
After..................3 units..........................1 unit
.....................____________________________________________

3 units-4 = 1 unit+8...............
3 units-1 units = 8+4
2 units = 12
1 unit = 6

Ans. At first, boys = 1 unit+8 = 6+8 = 14

3)Mrs Tan had a total of 115 oranges and apples. She sold half of the apples and 25 oranges. In the end, she had an equal number of oranges and apples left. Find the number of oranges she had at first.

................Oranges...............Apples
Before..........2 units...............1 unit+25
......................-1unit.........................-25
...............________________________________________
After..............1 unit.................1 unit
..............._________________________________________

2 units+1 unit+25 = 115
3 units+25 = 115
3 units = 115-25 = 90
1 unit = 30

Ans. At first, oranges = 2 units = 2 x 30 = 60
