Hi

Kindly help

Question 1
Angeline and Joanne received $967 from their father. Angeline received more money
than Joanna. When Angeline bought a pair of earrings for $42 and Joanne received
an additional $85 from her mother, their amount of money became the same. How
much did Joanne receive from her father?

Question 2
Mrs Molly baked 180 cupcakes. 55% of them were of chocolate flavour and the
rest were of vanilla flavour. After selling some of the chocolate cupcakes, the percentage of the chocolate cupcakes became 40%.

(a) How many cupcakes were left?
(b) How many chocolate cupcakes were sold?

Thanks

(a)How many cupcakes were left?
(b)How many chocolate cupcakes were sold?

Before
C: 55% (99)
V: 45% (81)
Total for C and V = 180 and for V (45%)= 45/100x180=81

After
C: 40% (54)
V: 60% (81)

100/60x81=135
(a) Number of cupcakes left = 135

40/100x135=54
99-54=45
(b) Number of chocolate cupcakes sold = 45

much did Joanne receive from her father?

A: [][$85][$42]
J: [][$85]

$(85+42)=$127
$(967-127)=$840
$840÷2= $420
ie [] = $420
Amount of money that Joanne received from her father = $420

Check
Amount of money received from father,
A: []+$85+$42= $547
J: $420

Final:
A: $547-$42=$505
J: $420+$85=$505

When drawing models, should there be an equal amount at the end, we should start by drawing the model from the end and work backwards. This allows you do make an immediate comparison between the two items.
