Converting Fractions into decimals 1 Year, 5 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi everyone! I find it a bit complicated when it comes to converting fractions into decimals. This question is really famous and a give away during exams so I can't afford losing marks because of this. Also, I am really bad at Maths and got 28 over 100. So I need a lot of help because there's not much time preparing for PSLE this year. Thank you

Hi there,

You have not included any question in your post.

But in general when converting fractions into decimals you will need to make the denominator 10, 100 or 1000. Eg. 2/5 change to 4/10; 11/20 change to 55/100; 5/8 to 625/1000; 33/55 to 60/100; etc.

Once you have done that you can change the new equivalent fraction to a decimal
4/10 --> 0.4 (1 decimal place)
55/100 --> 0.55 (2 decimal place)
625/1000 --> 0.625 (3 decimal place)
60/100 --> 0.60 --> 0.6 (2 decimal place but we drop off the zero)

A quick guide will show that the number of zeros in the denominator is the same as the number of decimals positions in the number unless we drop off a zero like in the last example.
