There were 64000cm3 of water in tank X and tank Y. The heights of the water in both tanks are equal. Tank Y was 40% full of water. When all the water from tank Y was poured into tank X, 4 litres of water overflowed.

tank x
L x B x H = 50 x 40 x 30
water level = h

tank y
L x B x H = 48 x 25 x __
water level h

A) find the height of the water in tank X at first?
find the capacity of tank Y?

Thank you

50 x 40 x 30 = 60000
60000 + 4000 = 64000
(50 x 40 x h) + (48 x 25 x h)
= 2000h + 1200h
= 3200h
3200h = 64000
h = 64000/3200 = 20
answer A = 20cm

40% = 48 x 25 x 20 = 24000
100% = 100 x 24000 / 40
= 60000
answer b = 60000cm3
