A rectangular tank measures 100 cm by 80 cm by 50cm.
Two similar cubes of edge 10cm are placed into it. The tank is filled with water flowing
with water flowing from a tap at a rate of 5.4 litres per minute.
At the same time, water from the tank seeps out from a hole at the bottom of the tank at a rate of 1400 ml/minute.
How long wil it take before the tank overflows with water?
(Give your answer corrected to the nearest minute)
Hi hajee,
Pls advise the source of this question? Answer is 100 min (nearest min) and pls advise if this is correct?
Water required = 100x80x50-2x10x10x10 = 398000 cm³
Water flowing in = (5.4-1.4)litres/minute = 4 litres/minute = 4000 cm³/min
Time required = 398000÷4000 = 99.5 minutes = 100 min (nearest min).
It will take 100 min (nearest min) before the tank overflows with water.
