Hi Please help me solve this .Thanks
The following pattern is created with 4 letters, A, B, C and D.
ABCDAABBCCDDAAABBBCCCDDD....?
Following the above pattern, what is the 230th letter (A, B, C or D)?
Can you teach me the techniques, how to solve this kind of question.
Your question is from Paya Lebar Methodist Girls' School P6 Prelim 2009 paper 1 Q15.
Answer is option (1) - A.
Since this is a 2-mark question, I (if I am a P6 student) won't want to spend too much to think of a special technique during examination condition to solve. Instead, I will solve it in the shortest time (less than 30 seconds if possible)and proceed to the next question
Look at the pattern,
ABCD - 4 letters
AABBCCDD - 8 letters
AAABBBCCCDDD - 12 letters
.
and so on........
Try to get as close to the 230th letter, so 4(1+2+3+.....+10)=220
The next 11 letters must be A but 220+10=230, so the 230th letter must be
A.
