Q: As Aaron was driving to work in the morning, he turned on the air-conditioner in his car. After a while, he noticed that the windows of his car had become misty.

Temperature in the car was 18 degree Celcius.
Temperature of the surrounding air was 26 degree Celcius.

a) On which surface (interior or exterior) of the windscreen would Arron find the mist? Explain your answer.

b)Would Aaron make the same observation if the temperature of the surrounding is 34 degree Celcius? Give a reason for your answer.

a) exterior. it is because condensation takes place when warmer air touches cool surface. (it is the same as spectacles after leaving a air conditioned room. The outside of your glasses form a misty layer instead of the inner lens near your face. )

b) yes he would make the same observation since the surrounding air is still warmer than the windscreen

a)exterior. when the warm water vapour in the surroundings comes into contact with the cool surface of the windows, it will condense to form water vapour on the exterior surface of the windows.

b)yes. the air in the surroundings is still warmer than the air in the car.

hope that all this info can help u.

Finally I've found an answer that I'm happy with.

The answer for (a) is fine. It's (b) I'm not completely convinced as at 34 degree celcius, the sun is already so hot overhead. With its heat, the exterior of the car will be just as hot.

For condensation to take place, water vapour in the air must touch a cooler surface. Hence, the answer for (b) is no, Aaron will not make the same observation.
